A ten-day, residential, certified Permaculture Design Course led by Steve Read from the Université Populaire de Permaculture. The course will cover the International Permaculture Institute Syllabus:-

There will be practical work projects around the property. You will have the opportunity to walk in the beautiful surroundings of the Bonnette Valley and swim in the swimming pool on site. We will also visit one or two sites which demonstrate current and historical landuse and buildings

Details

Deposit

A deposit of 50 UK pounds (65 euros) is required for your place on the course to be secured. Please send a UK cheque or a euro cheque to Des Dornan, La Barriere, 82160 Lacapelle Livron, France. Cheques to be made out to Des Dornan, please. Your deposit and your place on the course will be acknowledged immediately we receive it.

Cancellations

In the event of your having to cancel your place, your deposit will be returned to you, provided that you let us know at least 4 weeks prior to the start of the course.

The Balance of your course fee is to be paid on your arrival, between 3pm and 6pm on Wednesday 3rd June.

Accommodation

Within the farmhouse, accommodation will be in shared rooms (2 - 4 to a room, single-sex). The bedrooms are spacious and each room has a bathroom or shower room attached to it. All linen will be supplied, with the exception of towels. In particular, if you are going to be swimming in the pool think about bringing a towel specifically for swimming.

If you prefer to camp, we provide two tents each roomy enough for two people. A concessionary rate of 400 euros is available to campers and a shower room and toilet on the ground floor of the main house is allocated to campers. You will need to bring your own mat and sleeping bags.

If you are travelling from abroad we encourage you to have healthcare Insurance.

General Information on Permaculture Courses at La Barriere

Either 50 UK pounds or 65 euros as we deal in both currencies. The balance of your course fee is due at Registration (between 3pm and 6pm on the first day of the course.)

Accommodation and Meals

Please indicate on your booking form if you would like to camp or stay in the house. Accommodation in the main house is in single-sex rooms with 2 - 4 people sharing. Each room has its own showeroom or bathroom attached to it. If camping you will need to supply your own mat and sleeping bag. We can supply two tents, each more than large enough for two people.

If staying indoors, we supply all linen except towels. If you choose to swim in the on-site pool, think about bringing a towel expressly for swimming.

The costs of the course include 3 vegetarian meals a day. If you have any special dietary needs please let us know and we will do our best to cater for you.

What to bring

Cash to pay in euros (in cash or by cheque from a French bank account) to pay the balance of your course fee. Cheques from a UK bank in UK pounds are also fine.
If you're staying indoors, towels for washing/swimming.
If you're camping, sleeping mat, sleeping bag and a torch.
Rough clothes for working in (including long trousers/jeans). Also working gloves.
Strong shoes/boots for working or hiking.
Towels and toiletries.
High factor sun-block and a hat.
Waterproof outdoor clothing.
Any medecine, insect repellant, plasters,etc. you may need.
Medical/accident insurance as desired.

You may also wish to bring:

Swimming things, as there's an on-site pool.
Slippers for inside the house.
Ear-plugs may be useful if you are a light sleeper.

Arrival

People are asked to arrive between 3pm and 6pm on the first day of their course. On arrival, please come to the Barn Art Gallery to register, get oriented and find out where you are sleeping. The Gallery will also act as our classroom.

The course will start at around 7pm on the first evening, after a light meal at 6pm, and it will end after lunch on the final day.

Cancellations

In case of cancellation, please be aware that places are scarce and let us know as soon as possible so that your place can be offered to someone on the waiting list. Provided you let us know 4 weeks before the start of the course, your deposit can be refunded to you.

How to get to us (google maps http://www.labarriere.iowners.net/map.html )

La Barriere is situated 4kms from the medieval village of CAYLUS. Caylus lies fairly central within the triangle created by the major towns of Montauban, Cahors and Albi. It's on the D926, half-way between Caussade and Villefranche-en-Rouergue.

From Caylus take the D19 north in the direction of Limogne. Lacapelle-Livron is 4kms from Caylus, mostly uphill. At Lacapelle-Livron stay on the D19, passing two modern bungalows before you reach a little cross-roads. At that cross-roads slow down and pull onto the wide grass verge where you will see a sign for our 'Atelier d'Art', where we will be waiting for you.
